Los Angeles Home: The Fujikawas

*These photos and this story has not been covered online or submitted anywhere else.

Location: Los Angeles, CA (in the city of Westlake Village)

We are the Fujikawas. My husband, Tyson and I have been married for four years, I'm 27 and Tyson is 29. This is our full of color house in Westlake Village, CA. I am a fashion and home accessory designer for a company I co-own with my twin sister called True Birds. We sell our fashion and home accessories to Nordstrom, Henri Bendel, Fred Segal and other companies. Tyson, works in the medical industry as a product manager for orthopedic equipment.

In our free time my husband and I love to travel together, play sports, hit the beach (Malibu is a lucky 20 minute drive away) and host bbq's in the backyard. We look forward to having kids but are a bit scared to start as Tyson is a triplet and I am a twin. Bring on the multiples!

We would describe our home aesthetic as vintage modern. We love to mix patterns, colors and textures to make our space pop to our personality as we incorporate treasures from our traveling, my designs and flea market findings.

Details of our home below:

Image above: I love to make a strong first statement. This is the first thing you see when you walk in the door. My favorite piece is the vintage 50's couch. I purchased it at an estate sale in Wood Ranch for a $150 steal. The upholstery was in perfect condition and they even threw in the marble top coffee table for free. The pillows are all from my True Birds home accessory line. The orange picture of my husband and I jumping is the picture we sent out with our wedding invitation. The mint green glass framed mirror is from a flea market in NYC. The framed zebra pattern is from a True Birds collaboration we did with Project Runway finalist, Jerell Scott. The sailor girl picture we have is centered in the middle because we hope to have a girl someday and name her Sailor. The seashell wreath was a Valentine's gift from my husband. He met a seashell gatherer turned wreath maker in Malibu and she custom made the wreath for me by collecting all the shells at her local beach and even hand painted some of them. The frames are from Amye Design, a fabulous friend and great source. The vintage Vogue print I got off of Craigslist from a Santa Monica local and the turquoise and black canvas I got at a street fair in NYC.
We love how the colors and patterns in the house reflects our personalities.

We love to travel together. We collect books of different places we've been and are continually daydreaming about our next adventure. The Ahoy engraved wood block I purchased from Brooklyn Rehab and the anchor is a Home Goods find.

We have a thing for collecting birds and elephants. The bird is from Anthropologie and the elephant is from Chinatown in San Francisco.

My husband and I had so much fun laying out the gallery wall together and tacking it up. We love doing DIY projects together like the gallery wall or refinishing the marble coffee table in the images above. The whale plaque is from Brooklyn Rehab and the gold tin elephant heart is from the fashion district in L.A..

One of my favorite pieces on the gallery wall is the pink wall sconce as it brings depth to the wall. It's from Amye Design as well as the sunshine oval mirror.

Tyson is usually in ironed work attire and I am luckily in the opposite since I work from home. I opt for easy breezy denim and a printed or a pop of color top.

My favorite thing to do at home is play or listen to music with my husband.

We believe our bedroom shouldn't be taken too seriously. We love to reflect light in our space with the use of a lot of white and like the cleanliness simple symmetry can create like the lamps, end tables and plants on each side of the bed.

Can you tell who goes on which side of the bed? I would be the beach hat embellished with a True Birds hair pin and Tyson would be the golf books with a touch of sand.

In our home we love to read. Design for me and sports for him. Girly and manly is how we mix.

True Birds pillows joined in with a Michael Kohrs euro and a DKNY turquoise pillow.

One of our family mottos: "All you need is love". Thank you Beatles.

This floral wallpaper makes me smile every time.

My True Birds office. The drape is vintage fabric I dug out of a garage sale bin. I love when the sun shines through the metallic circles, it brings out the texture and glows on the wall. The chair is from my desk set growing up that my Mom also used as a teen. The pewter mug is from Portobello Market and the bird rug is from Target.

I always have a couple long tables set up in my workspace so I can lay out my current projects. I simply drape fabric over it and voila, a desk! This table is my happy space where my inspiration trays are layed out to go over the latest True Birds creations.

I love those Henri Bendel hat boxes, they make me so happy. We use those when we do our trunk shows for True Birds at Bendel's. I am also a total file girl, I love to file and organize so I was happily surprised to find Tiffany blue file folders at my local Office Depot. The tassel garland just makes me smile, we used it for a video shoot for Real Simple and I love when it flies with the breeze when the window is open.

These spools of thread are from the fashion district in L.A. and remind me to keep creating new things. I also have a thing for stickers, so these sticky logo labels just tempt me all the time to stick them on silly things from my hair brush to my bottled water.

Our dining room space. We love randomness and bright objects. The metallic coral candlesticks are Pottery Barn, the copper mermaid is a gift from my mother-in-law because sometimes I think I was a mermaid in another life. The books are vintage from the 6o's and the blue collection is a gathering of thrifted and gifted pieces.

This is above our fireplace mantle. The framed art reminds me of my Rocky Mountains where I grew up. The frames are Amye Design.

Our favorite corner of the house is definitely this kitchen nook. We love to drink our morning smoothies here and look outside at the always blooming bougainvillea bush.

What I love most about my home is the feel it has because it allows me to let go and totally be myself.

Note: Design Sponge, we recently moved to Italy! I wanted to send these to you before we moved but right before we moved I had a battle with cancer and then the international move directly after that so I am now just getting caught up on life! All of the photos and all info/description of us is current as I just wrote it today. Hope you can still run it even though we recently moved. If it helps I still live in California part of the year as I go back and forth for weeks at a time quarterly for True Birds as my company is still based out of California.
